Feasibility Portfolio: Greek Life Expansion

Researching the feasibility of expanding the fraternity and sorority life at Hamline University.

Feasibility Proposal

The Greek Life at Hamline University is very small with only one national fraternity and one local sorority. While I was involved in the sorority for a time, I felt I was not receiving the same benefits/opportunities as other women who were a part of a national organization with a much larger Greek Life presence on campus. I wanted to research if expansion at Hamline was a possibility and the steps required to implement such an expansion.

Feasibility Questionnaire

In order to conduct this study, I researched statistics about national organizations. I also distributed a survey to 37 undergraduate students asking their opinions of the current Greek Life at Hamline and if they would be interested in learning more and would consider joining if expansion took place.

Feasibility Paper

After collecting and analyzing my data from the questionnaire, I found the majority of students were uninformed about fraternity and sorority life on campus, however, they were interested in learning more. I also found students who identified as being an athlete did not have an interest in joining a national organization. I felt this was due to the community created by being on a sports team.

Feasibility Powerpoint

In order to move forward on Greek Life expansion at Hamline University, education is necessary. I recommend administration holds a forum for students explaining what fraternities and sororities have to offer and the many benefits of being a member. Once students are informed, distribute another questionnaire for the entire student body to receive a more accurate idea of the views of students. After analyzing the results, the administration is able to see if Greek Life is something the student body is interested and move forward accordingly.
