Ability Experience Friendship Walk, Milwaukee, WI
Event Coordinator

June 2014

I conceptualized a fund and friend-raising event to benefit both The Ability Experience--Journey of Hope, and IndependenceFirst. I was responsible for all aspects of the event from route design, requesting permits, in-kind donations, and sponsorship. I was in contact with the Logistics Coordinator for The Ability Experience to ensure the event ran smoothly and worked closely with other agencies working with the disability community to increase awareness and excitement around this important community event.

Hamline University Catalyst Trip
Volunteer

March 2014

I spent my spring break in the area of New Orleans affected by Hurricane Katrina. The Hamline Catalyst trip gave me the opportunity to use reflective service to investigate questions of justice in the community. I learned about, experienced, and took action on homelessness, racism, and social injustice from a multi-faith perspective. I built relationships with the communities and with those with whom I served.

Share A Pair, Denim Day Milwaukee, WI

February 2013

In an effort to show support for the victims of sexual assault, I organized a city-wide event for Denim Day. Through the press, social and television media I organized the donation of over 1,050 pairs of jeans to be displayed on the fence surrounded Wauwatosa East High School. I was a part of several press conferences including Mayor Kathy Ehley in Wauwatosa, Mayor Tom Barrett in Milwaukee, Attorney General .B. Van Hollen in Madison and received a proclamation from Governor Scott Walker as well as did numerous TV and radio interviews. All jeans collected were donated to Pathfinders to help local teens in crisis.

The purpose of The H.I.K.E. Fund is to provide hearing devices for children with hearing losses between the ages of newborn and twenty years whose parents are unable to meet this special need financially. An estimated 100 children are provided with hearing devices each year.

As the H.I.K.E. Youth Coordinator I was responsible for organizing and chairing statewide fundraising events to raise money for H.I.K.E.  In addition, I traveled the state making check presentations to needy children and their families. Although my term as the Youth H.I.K.E. Coordinator has come to a close, I still work to raise funds for this worthy cause.
